have cancer 意为“患癌症”。have表示“患(病)”, 得(病)”, 与catch和get同义。have是延续性动词, 表示状态; catch和get是瞬间动词, 表示动作, 不可跟一段时间连用。
例：I caught (=got) a bad cold three days ago.
我三天前得了重感冒。
I have had a bad cold for three days.我患重感冒已经三天了。

if 在句中作连词，意为“是否”，引导宾语从句。
例：The teacher asked if everyone was here.
